1986 Fuji Touring Series V - Fuji Rescue Society

I bought a 1986 Fuji Touring Series V yesterday.  The seller was in West Virginia, part of the directions included (I'm not making this up), "turn left at the yellow outhouse".

When I got there, the bike was somewhat rougher - more nicks and rust - than the ad led me to believe.    Given another year or two in the conditions it was apparently stored in,  it would have been in pretty sad shape.  While the componentry was a mish-mash of stuff, the frame was straight and no dents.  So I went ahead and bought it anyhow.  I figured maybe this would be a platform to hone my paint touch-up skills.

So here are the pictures on my arrival home:

Doesn't look too bad from a distance, but up close:

Blah shimano brakes.  Shimano somehow doesn't seem right on old Fujis except the rare as a unicorn 70's Ace.

I forget what they call these things, but it is a parking brake.

More rust.

The eyelets, double front and rear, are super beefy.  The dropouts are stamped "FUJI".

What happened to the tubing decal?

Tons o' clearance.

More rust.  Hatta Swan headset, one of the few items that matches the original spec.

Some places, the paint doesn't look too bad.

More Shimano.  Most of the parts are going in junk box or Ebay to help defray the cost of the frame.  The wheels are Deore XT laced to Matrix Titan rims that look to have pretty low mileage.

Double front eyelets.

There she goes...

Well, there is only one answer to this...

Your parking brake is a flickstand.

Ahh, yes, thanks, for the life of me I couldn't recall the name of those things.

I have to say that it is a bit surprising to see you buying more bikes when you are planning such a drastic downsize. While the wife is away...
